The service at North Bristol Trust based at Southmead Hospital provides a full range of obstetric services across North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The maternity department, one of the largest in the country, was awarded ‘Good’ by the CQC has more than 6,300 births each year offering women the choice of 4 places of birth.

  • These include a Consultant led Obstetric Unit with 2 HDU rooms, 9 birthing rooms and a pool room. An extensive maternal medicine services, including Perinatal Mental Health and Complex Care team and a Fetal Medicine Service.
  • There is an Alongside Midwifery Unit, a Freestanding Midwifery Unit at Cossham Hospital, and Home Birth Team.
  • Our services are renowned nationally and internationally, having developed PROMPT and a wide research portfolio.
  • Our NBTeXtra bank midwives are valued members of our team and have access to exceptional benefits, full training and induction support including 20 supernumerary hours. NBTeXtra offer flexible working patterns to meet your needs, offering earlies, lates, long days and nights with competitive rates. There may also be the opportunity to block book shifts, depending on the needs of the service.

  • £21.46 per hour – Week Days
  • £27.89 per hour – Nights and Saturdays
  • £34.33 per hour – Sundays and Bank Holidays
  • *All rates are inclusive of annual leave allowance

    Main duties of the job

    As a Bank Midwife, you will be working as an experienced Midwife practitioner, exercising clinical judgement for the assessment of care needs, the development, the implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in partnership with women within the practice area.

    Applicants must:

  • Hold RM (Registered Midwife) registration with current NMC license to practice
  • Have relevant Midwifery experience within the last 12 months
  • Have a drive to work hard, enthusiasm and the ability to commit to a 4-day induction programme if successful
  • Have right to work in UK (with relevant Adaptation/ONP if applicable)

  • Registered Midwife with current live NMC Registration - for more than 1 year
  • Teaching and assessing qualification (998 or equivalent)
  • Evidence of post registration education
  • Work Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Practicing midwife with a minimum of one years experience
  • Antenatal/intrapartum and postnatal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to work co-operatively with all members of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
