The Team

Farrer & Co's Insolvency team specialises in complex, high-value transactional and advisory work. With expert knowledge in both corporate and personal insolvency work, we act for a number of the leading accountancy firms and insolvency practices, advising administrators, liquidators, receivers and trustees in bankruptcy.

In addition to advising on the acquisitions and disposals of insolvent companies, we also have particular focus on:

  • LPA appointments/contentious property insolvencies.
  • Company Voluntary Arrangements.
  • Advising on bona vacantia issues and dissolved companies.
  • Insolvencies relating to charities and schools.
  • Insolvencies in the construction industry.
  • Advising high net worth individuals during the breakdown of their marriages.
  • Scope

    The candidate will sit in the insolvency team, acting for insolvency practitioners, private banks, companies and boards, on the full range of insolvency processes, including administrations, liquidations, company voluntary arrangements and receiverships. The candidate will also be acting for individuals and other stakeholders on personal bankruptcy matters.

    Responsibilities

    The role will have a varied and interesting mix, working alongside senior lawyers, assisting on a broad range of insolvency matters, handling queries and enquiries efficiently. It will also involve a high degree of client contact and business development activity.

    Skills and Experience
  • High level of technical knowledge relating to the practice area
  • Strong academic background
  • Excellent organisational skills with and strong interest and enthusiasm in respect of insolvency work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starting approach to tasks and projects and ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to think laterally and apply knowledge and experience to a broad range of transactions and clients
  • Efficient communication skills and the ability to pitch the advice to the person receiving it
  • The ability to deal with many matters at any one time
  • Person Specification
  • An ability to deal calmly and with authority commensurate with experience
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines is essential
  • An enthusiasm for teamwork, dealing with people, and an ability to assume responsibility
  • Ability to efficiently deal with a varied and often demanding workload will also be a key requirement
  • The candidate will be expected to quickly become an integral part of an established and highly regarded team
  • Education and Qualifications

    Minimum 2.1 degree and a training contract undertaken in a mid-sized or city firm.

    Special aspects

    The hours of work for this opportunity are 9:30am - 5:30pm but we would expect the successful candidate to be committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours if necessary and in response to client demand. You will be expected to follow the firm’s agile working policy, which embraces home working but will require employees to spend a minimum number of days each week in the London office.
