About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced academic developer and educational leader for the role of Assistant Head of the University Teaching Academy (UTA). Offering support, leadership, advice and guidance on all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment, UTA works with faculties and teams across the University, developing academic practice, teaching and learning policy, plus close collaborations with other professional services. The suite of CPD opportunities offered ranges from one-off workshops to taught postgraduate certificate and masters courses. Also provided are Advance HE Fellowship routes: Associate, Fellow, Senior and Principal Fellow. 

As a member of the UTA senior team, you will have specific leadership responsibility for aspects of UTA, ensuring that the team's objectives align with strategic aims, delivering cross-team collaboration within and beyond our Learning Enhancement and Educational Development (LEED) Centre, and supporting and enabling the delivery of the University's Education and People Strategy. You will support the evaluation of Education key performance indicators and contribute to our executive leadership in Education provision. You will also be expected to build partnerships with external agencies and professional bodies in order to engage in collaborative work, generate educational research and evaluation income and enhance the University's reputation. The ability to deliver core provision across the range of UTA activities is essential.

About you

We are looking for a Principal Fellow (or aspiring) with a track record of leadership, policy development and evaluation. You will be able to use initiative, creativity and judgement in taking the lead to develop approaches to academic CPD, as well as leading on a range of Teaching Excellence Framework 2027 readiness activities, undertaking research and scholarly activities, preparing reports and proposals, managing budgets, presenting at national/international level, developing new partnerships and securing new income streams. In addition, you will have strong educational development professional networks enabling you to draw upon sector-wide best practices in relation to the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Your significant track record in programme and curriculum management includes coordinating the deployment of staff and the allocation of resources, managing, motivating, and supporting teams, coaching, providing performance-related feedback, and ensuring continuous improvement. With significant experience in leading and facilitating staff development – including applying innovative approaches when developing programmes, curriculum and assessments – you will have designed, delivered and evaluated academic CPD and developed assessments, drawing on appropriate knowledge of HE benchmarks, Professional standards, the TEF, quality assurance frameworks and the wider regulatory context.
