The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified academic colleagues who work at Lancaster University for the post of Director for Research Culture (university wide). This 12 months post is designed to complement existing Faculty Associate Dean (Research) and university level research-related roles. You will report directly to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise).

The Director will be responsible for developing the University’s strategy in the area of research culture and leading the implementation of the research culture delivery plan, working with and across all faculties and institutes. You will be expected to inspire and engage existing staff teams and potential external partners by clearly articulating both vision and strategy, building meaningful networks, both internally and externally. You will work to maximise research potential and to enhance Lancaster University’s reputation and support the PVC (Research and Enterprise) in ensuring a strong institutional submission to REF2028 (and future research assessments) in this area.

Key relationships include working alongside the four Faculty Associate Deans for Research, Head of Research Quality and Policy, Research Culture Manager and Research and Enterprise Services (RES).

You should have experience of operating strategically in an academic leadership role, potentially a Professorial role, with in-depth understanding of what constitutes the highest quality research culture and experience of research culture development activity in some capacity for the improvement of research excellence.

This post is at least a 0.5 position and will normally be held for an initial period of 12 months. The Department from which the successful candidate comes from will receive a fees allocation proportionate to the FTE commitment for the initial 12 months that the post is held.
