About the Database Developer/Administrator role:

FV have an opening for a Database Developer/Administrator to bolster the IT team. The role will work within the business application team and will require someone with a keen eye for detail, have an analytical thought process and be able to think outside of the box to solve problems.

The ideal candidate will need to be able communicate with senior managers and business colleagues or functions a-like. They will benefit from having the drive to learn more than just the IT side of the business. The post holder will need to be able to work alone or with the team, to scope and deploy new data requirements or actioning change to existing data process.

The Database Developer/Administrator will be required to maintain and improve an in-house developed data warehouse, the core responsibilities will be to ensure the continuity and prompt resolution of issues relating to the business data systems.

We are continually developing our technology solutions which are currently based around Salesforce, Power BI and a mature ERP solution from niche suppliers in the furniture and retail sector. Our approach is to drive innovation to the business by extracting data from the ERP and using Power BI to create more data driven decision making. Coupled to that we will selectively replace and enhance areas of the ERP to drive sales, competitive advantage and promote Best Practice whilst in parallel planning for the replacement or legacy management of the core ERP.

Key Responsibilities and results of our Database Developer/Administrator:


  • To ensure that the data warehouse achieves the highest possible availability through continual monitoring, improvement and creation of ETL process. The creation and implementation of data cleansing processes will also form a key part of the role.
  • Participate in the entire life cycle of report development, Design, Develop, Test and Implementation.  The successful candidate will also be required to liaise with end users and make amendments to reports based specification approved by department heads and business needs.
  • Responsible for data integrity and will be required to perform data sense checks between the live environments and reporting environment, to ensure the continuous accuracy and integrity of the reporting environment.
  • Required to perform data extracts upon request from the end users, which conform to the standards and methodologies of Furniture Village business logic.
  • Establish and develop a Business Analytics and Intelligence function to combine, summarise, and report on business activities and performance to aid decision making.
  • Identify and recommend activities (process improvements, staff training improvements, application improvements) which would improve understanding and adoption of finance and reporting systems.
  • Build and promote a culture of continuous improvement, increasing the quality of services delivered to our customers and clients.
  • Promote innovation and creativity in the use of management information, services, technology and solutions to anticipate and support the changing requirements of the company.
  • Ensure that systems are secured and managed within the company Information Security guidelines.
  • Identify and manage risks and health and safety in line with company policies and procedures.

Key skills and attributes we are looking for in our Database Developer/Administrator:


  • A degree or equivalent qualification or experience and evidence of continual professional development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Broad technical knowledge of business analysis, reporting, software development, testing and project management.
  • Experience using Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2019
  • Strong T-SQL Skills
  • Experience using SSRS, SSIS and SSAS
  • An understanding of the ETL process
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Power BI
