Role Purpose
As a member within the Projects/Cost Centre accounting team, this role delivers key finance and accounting outputs to the business without supervision. You will be required to provide first class financial data which is timely, accurate and relevant, whilst complying with standard processes, procedures and QinetiQ finance policies
Key Accountabilities
1. Cost reconciliation to prepare invoices to Customers.
2. Support preparation of monthly management accounts, including reconciliations for a business area.
3. Work alongside Cost Centre/Project Accounting Lead as point of contact for the business area
4. Resolves queries and emerging issues using judgement based on analysis of information and utilising experience and knowledge of finance and accounting activities
5. Supporting and delivers reliable reporting requirements for the business, which usually fall under tight deadlines
6. Attend/Lead on regular Project/Cost Centre review meetings, liaising with Business Finance, Project and IDT Manager
7. Support the effectiveness of the Finance area by proactively seeking areas for continuous improvement, implementing improvements as well as supporting others with these activities
8. Liaises with the other area of Business Services to ensure processes which cross team boundaries are working effectively and efficiently.
Specific Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
1. Support month end processes, ensuring that all journals that are posted are timely and accurate. Involvement in transaction posting where necessary.
2. Assist with monthly Management Packs and Balance Sheet Packs, ready for Team Lead and Business Finance review
3. Support in forecasting and budgeting rounds for your area, ensuring that reviews take place, ensure the relevant information is extracted from the reviews and the numbers provided are appropriate and accurate for submission
4. Capital expenditure monitoring
5. For Projects, review of bids against standard checklist for compliance with process, completeness and accuracy of the financial data and modelling included
6. Attend regular Leadership reviews and completion of month end and LBE dashboards.
7. Other ad hoc reporting, including participating in regular reviews with key stakeholders, Team Leads and Management Information Services
Key Capabilities/Knowledge
• Knowledge of Management Information Services and its key outputs
• Attention to detail and excellent analytical skills
• Effective time management and a can-do attitude
• Team player willing to seek help from colleagues and share experiences and best practices
• Flexibility in approach and attitude – open to change
• Customer service and delivery of quality outputs
• Exceptional communication skills and willingness to take on additional tasks where necessary
Experience & Qualifications
• Proven experience in challenging results and providing accurate and relevant feedback
• Strong commercial awareness and be confident with using finance systems and packages (especially SAP and HFM)
• High level of Project/Cost Centre accounting experience in a similar business
• Development of Management Accountants and other team members
• Proven experience of being able to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines, working alongside other members of the team in an efficient and structured way
• Desirable experience working in a start-up culture and HMG
• Part Qualified Accountant – actively studying towards CIMA, ACA, or ACCA. If only Part Qualified must show significant demonstrable experience.
